Coach

What if you had a challenge in your life and you weren’t sure how to turn to? Family? Friends? What about someone who could see the whole picture, help you to understand what was motivating you and then help you create the change you want?

That’s what a coach does.

It’s hard sometimes when we’re in the thick if it to really hard to see and understand everything that’s going on. Sometimes when you are in the fight you don’t see how your oppotent is working you on the ropes. When you’re playing the game and concentrating on the next play you don’t always see the defences that the other team are putting up.

That’s what a coach does.

Sometimes you just need someone to come in and look at the whole game and asking you why you’re playing that way. Sometimes you just want to show you the options you have, including the ones you can’t see.

Let me explain:

There was once a little girl whose mother baked bread. It was the most delicious homemade bread anyone had ever tasted. Soft, white and fluffy on the inside with a golden top that cried ‘eat me’ to everyone who saw it.

One day the little girl became a mother herself. She wanted to bake bread for her children so she got a book from her local library. The book told her exactly what she needed and she went home, full of expectation.

She baked a batch of bread rolls. The dough failed to rise and the rolls were like stones.

The young woman telephoned her mother, tears in her voice as she explained what had happened.

“I did everything the book told me to. I measured and counted and waited and watched. What did I do wrong?”

The wise mother asked questions. She talked to her daughter about what she had done at each stage. She listened, patient through the tears, as her daughter described what had happened.

As her mother talked with her, the young woman set another batch of rolls to rise. They laughed and cried together as beautiful, golden bread rolls emerged from the young woman’s oven.

Books are a wonderful learning resource but sometimes what you really need is for someone to come alongside you and ask questions. You need to be heard and have the opportunity to explore what it is that you need next to make your dreams a reality.

That’s coaching and that’s where I come in.
